Lynn K. Gissing (affectionately known as 'Mama Lynn') is from Cleethorpes, N.E. Lincolnshire, UK, but has lived in the Kilimanjaro Region of Tanzania since 2000 when she founded Light in Africa.  It is estimated that Light in Africa has assisted over 350,000 children and adults through their programs.

Whilst walking through her UK neighborhood, Mama Lynn was literally stopped in her tracks with a vision that she can only describe as a message from God.  That message said, "Go to Africa".  On the third command, she walked straight into a travel agent and booked a ticket to Kilimanjaro.

On that first trip, Mama Lynn recalls, “I found children and adults dying in such misery and stigmatization with no help being offered to relieve their suffering. I sold all of my possessions and six months later returned to Tanzania and went to live with the ‘Wachagga’ tribe 6,000 feet up on the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro”.

Since that experience, Mama Lynn has grown Light in Africa to an organization that cares for and educates over 200 children at any given time, feeds hundreds of children a day in a Food Kitchen, and has treated over 125,000 people to date through medical outreach.

A Light in Africa is Mama Lynn's first book of stories from her experiences in Tanzania.
